Whole Body Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy was discovered by Dr Toshima Yamaguchi, a Japanese medical doctor, in 1978, during his search for a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. Dr Yamaguchi found that by using a rapid decrease in temperature on the outer layer of the skin, which was often achieved by applying freezing instruments to small targeted areas of the body, that this lead to an immediate release of endorphins, and a reduction in pain sensitivity for his patients.
Whilst Cryotherapy has evolved into what is now a very sophisticated system, Cryotherapy is recognised as one of the earliest and most primitive cures, with many supporting books and articles being written during the early part of the 19th Century.
Equally fascinating and important to acknowledge is that Cryotherapy or ‘Cold Cure’, its original Greek name, has in fact been in existence, in some shape of form, since 2500BC with Ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire and Greece embracing the use of extremely low temperatures on the body, to help reduce pain, inflammation, and promote internal recovery.
Anyone can benefit from using Cryotherapy. Our treatments are not exclusively for athletes or active sport enthusiasts, although it is widely used in athletics and training, for pain relief and longer term pain management, with significant and positive results.
Cryotherapy is used to enhance and maintain general wellness and for providing pain relief for long term medical conditions including: osteoarthritis, rheumatism and fibromyalgia, and of course post-surgical recovery.
Beauty and weight loss can also be supported through a series of non-invasive, localised treatments.
Research has proved that Cryotherapy can aid recovery from physical exertion, whoever you are, and that includes athletes and celebrities alike.
Some of those reported to have used Cryotherapy include: Tony Robins, Floyd Mayweather, Daniel Craig, Christian Ronaldo, Demi Moore, Jamie Vardy and Adam Bishop (Britain’s Strongest Man)
As with all therapies, there are some medical conditions where we would advise against using Cryotherapy, but the team is here to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
In addition, we follow a strict series of medically related questions as part of patient registration, so you can rest assured that no treatment will be given, before this has been completed.
Absolutely, Cryotherapy stimulates circulation and as the skin responds to the cold temperature it sends a message to the brain which triggers a cascade of neurological, endocrine and immune regulatory functions around the body.
This encourages an increase in white blood cell counts, which leads to an anti-inflammatory response, reductions in muscle edema, and enhanced waste transportation as well as possible desirable effects on immune function.
Stepping into the Cryotherapy Chamber will help to encourage muscle repair, cell renewal and reduce excess inflammation helping you to recover.
Absolutely – many sports professionals use Cryotherapy as a form of post activity recovery. Not only does it increase blood circulation, but promotes increased strength and energy, and heightens motion and flexibility. It can help to improve muscular fatigue and even promotes improved concentration as the brain receives more oxygen. With such extreme temperatures, the body works to create a balance and with increased blood flow; the immune system is boosted naturally, and healing improved.
For those who engage regularly in sporting activity, they will find that a 3 minute Whole Body Cryotherapy chamber session will support their health and recovery. For maximum results to be maintained, regular sessions are encouraged during heightened activity.
We regularly welcome local and regional sports teams to take advantage of our group pricing plans to support their pre and post-match fitness regime. It’s important to have that edge on the competition!
No, Cryotherapy doesn’t hurt. Depending on which treatment you chose, the sensations will be different. It’s extraordinary and exhilarating all rolled into one.
The Cryotherapy Chamber is cold, but the cold is a dry cold, so not as intense and you might first imagine.
It’s invigorating and energising. Even if you normally feel the cold, this will feel very, very different. It certainly doesn’t have that cutting feeling like freezing water or an ice bath.
As for our ‘Local’ Cryotherapy treatments, whilst these are equally cold and intense, the sensations are ‘localised’ to the specific areas of injury and each treatment is managed by your therapist, so intensity can be monitored and managed throughout your session.
If for any reason you feel uncomfortable, you can stop your treatment at any time or temperatures can be reduced if the intensity is too much for you.

This will be dependent on individual needs and / or the severity of presenting conditions. We find that many clients experience increased vitality, improved sleep and a decrease in muscle pain after only one treatment.
The immediate benefits of a Cryotherapy treatment, generally last between 4 – 6 hours.
If you are experiencing chronic pain then we would generally suggest 6 – 10 sessions to be taken in reasonably closed succession. Your progress will be monitored and your schedule can be altered accordingly.
As an example, your treatment schedule may be every 1 – 2 days over a period of 2 – 3 weeks; reducing to a 2 sessions a week, and then once a week as pain continues to reduce.
Your needs and objectives will be discussed during your consultation and registration. An appropriate treatment plan will be developed and agreed with you and your plan will be monitored and adjusted in line with your progress. Once your treatment cycle has concluded, periodic treatments may be encouraged going forward.
Whilst there are no specific age restrictions for Cryotherapy treatments we do ask that those under 18 years of age, who wish to use Cryotherapy, are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Authorised consent will be required before any treatment is given.
Equally, there is no upper age limit, providing there are no known medical conditions that would preclude the use of Cryotherapy. If you have any concerns, please speak to your GP first.
With the exception of earrings and rings, which will be suitably covered, you will be asked to remove all mental objects. You will be able to leave those will your clothes.
Yes, Cryotherapy is safe. Protective gloves, socks, slippers, headbands,s and a face mask are worn.
Sessions can be stopped at any time by simply opening the door.
For ‘Local’ Cryotherapy treatments, and depending on the area of treatment, you will wear your own clothes throughout, with only the specific areas requiring treatment, exposed.
Again, any treatment can be stopped immediately, if requested.
Our Cryotherapy Chamber is spacious and the doors are clear and do not lock. You will be able to see through to the outer treatment area at all times. Your therapist will remain immediately outside the Chamber, throughout your session, so you will be able to see them. If you feel uncomfortable at any point and want to stop the session, you can simply push the door open.
Yes, absolutely. There is nothing to stop you exercising before or after Cryotherapy. There are definite benefits to using Cryotherapy before engaging in exercise as it may increase your pain threshold and muscle viscosity, enabling you to undertake a more intensive exercise regimen.
Additionally, with the increase in endorphins and adrenaline, you will likely experience and increase in energy levels before your work out.
The use of Cryotherapy, post training / exercise, will likely leave you feeling incredibly energised. Many athletes / sport enthusiasts use Cryotherapy to assist in the management of muscle soreness after sports and exercise and to speed up recovery
Everyone’s experience is different, but feedback includes ‘feeling a rush of adrenaline’, ‘feeling energised’, ‘heightened senses’ and ‘feelings of excitement’. These feelings can last for between 4 – 6 hours after each treatment. Experience is unique. Most client’s report a better night’s sleep after just one session.
There are no known issues in respect of those who have metal implants. Whether you opt for the Cryotherapy Chamber, or a ‘Local’ treatment, this will only ‘chill’ the skin to a few millimetres deep. The treatment does not freeze tissue or lower core body temperature. It is safer that an ice bath.
If you have any concerns, please speak to your GP first.
Cryotherapy carries minimal risk, and we do observe a strict registration procedure before allowing anyone to receive a Cryotherapy treatment.
Understandably, blood pressure can fluctuate during a session in the Cryotherapy Chamber, by up to 10 points systolic. Allergic reactions to extreme cold temperatures can occur, but these are rare. And occasionally the activation of some viral conditions including cold sores can appear due to the stimulation of the body’s immune system, although again, this is rare.
However, if you have experienced any of the following health conditions, then we would strongly advise AGAINST using Cryotherapy, unless you have express and written permission from your GP.
Restrictions to consider:
* Acute kidney condition
* Allergic reactions to extreme cold Arrhythmia
* Blood clots
* Cardiac pacemaker
* Fever
* Heart attack within the last 3 months High blood pressure
* Open wounds
* Pregnancy
* Raynaud’s Syndrome
* Severe dementia
* Stroke within the last 3 months Tumour(s)
* Epilepsy
* Unstable chest pains
* Urinary tract condition
Cryo 345 has opted NOT to use Nitrogen to cool its Cryotherapy Chamber. Our Cryotherapy Chamber is fully electrical and air-cooled. This means that the temperature within the Chamber is consistent throughout its delivery of the ‘whole body’ experience.
Having breast implants doesn’t mean you can’t do cryotherapy. It is perfectly safe, you may feel a little more cold in that area but it won’t harm you in any way.
Localized cryotherapy
Localized cryotherapy is a very short blast of cold air between -35 to -40 degrees. It is a local treatment for a specific area of the body which is suffering from injury or pain.
What happens physiologically in the body during the treatment?
Physiologically, when the body is subjected to temperatures this low your body is going through a state of “Thermo-shock”. The brain reacts by sending fresh blood to the area at a quicker rate, this is why the area will look very red after the treatment. This blood is full of fresh nutrients that will help to decrease inflammation and speed up healing. The cold will also help bring out any bruising quickly, further speeding up recovery.
Whilst Cryotherapy has evolved into what is now a very sophisticated system, Cryotherapy is recognised as one of the earliest and most primitive cures, with many supporting books and articles being written during the early part of the 19th Century.

This treatment will help acute conditions such as injuries to ligaments, tendons, and muscles. It will promote healing and speed up the recovery time. For chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, it can help to manage symptoms. It can help reduce pain and inflammation. Cold therapy at this temperature is also known to help skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
The treatment can last up to 10 minutes. There is no downtime so it is fine to go about your day.
No, local cryotherapy treatments do not hurt. At most, the cold may feel a little more intense than you may be accustomed to and you will likely experience some tightening of the skin. The air jet is dry, rather than wet like ice, so although it will feel cold, it is not painful.
This will depend completely on your condition. If it is an acute injury you will likely feel some immediate benefit from your initial local cryotherapy session, but the benefits are cumulative and the best results are always achieved through a series of sessions and then followed up with periodic sessions, once a natural balance has been achieved. If it is a chronic injury, then it can help manage pain symptoms so once or twice a month will help aid healing and reduce pain.
Yes, local cryotherapy is considered to be completely safe and treatments are totally non-invasive. If you are pregnant or have hypertension or cardiovascular problems, you should avoid cryotherapy (these questions are covered in the medical waiver to be completed prior to treatment). If you are in any doubt, please consult your doctor.
Yes. We recommend starting with a whole-body cryotherapy chamber to begin the process of recovery, followed by localised cryotherapy to target a specific area of injury or pain, and lastly the massage which will relax the muscles further and release out any knots or tension
Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic pressure waves to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and improve tissue repair in muscles, tendons, and joints.
ESWT is commonly used to treat plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, shoulder pain, patellar tendinopathy, calcific tendon conditions, and other chronic musculoskeletal injuries.
Most clients experience mild discomfort during treatment, particularly in sensitive or injured areas. The intensity can be adjusted to ensure the treatment remains tolerable and effective.
The number of treatments varies depending on the condition and its severity. Most clients benefit from a series of 3–6 sessions, although some may notice improvement after the first treatment.
A typical shockwave therapy session lasts between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
No. Most clients can return to their normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Your therapist may provide specific recommendations regarding exercise or activity levels.
Some clients experience relief within a few days, while others notice gradual improvement over several weeks as the body's natural healing response progresses.
Yes. Shockwave Therapy is widely used in physiotherapy and sports medicine and is supported by research demonstrating its effectiveness in treating chronic tendon injuries, plantar fasciitis, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
In many cases, ESWT can be an effective treatment option for chronic tendon and soft tissue injuries, helping clients improve symptoms and function without the need for surgical intervention.
Cryo Body Sculpt combines localised cryotherapy with deep tissue massage. This helps to improve the overall appearance of cellulite. Treatments are non-surgical and non-invasive with a two-fold approach that helps to improve skin tone.
Following a full assessment, you will receive intervals of localized cryotherapy on your chosen target area. This will be followed by deep tissue massage which encourages fat cells to break down and disperse through the body’s natural lymphatic drainage system. Treatments last from 25 minutes on one area to 45 minutes, if you choose to have two areas treated at once.
Clients have reported that the best results appear to be on the typical problem areas including the back of thighs, abdomen, buttocks and upper arms as these are the key areas where skin can become less firm over time and cellulite can appear to be more obvious.
These natural and non-invasive treatments result in a reduction of density and thickness of fat layers. As the therapist gently massages and sculpts the target area, it encourages fat cells to break down, and disperse through the body’s natural lymphatic drainage. It is reasonable to expect that after a treatment, those areas treated are less likely to accumulate as many fat cells again, in the longer term. It is important to maintain diet and exercise as part of your overall health and well-being.
We recommend initially receiving 1-2 sessions per week and then reducing frequency based on results.
Every individual will respond differently to Cryo sculpt. We generally recommend 4-6 session in one are depending on the size of that area.
You may notice some results after 1-2 sessions however long term changes in diet and exercise will enhance your results.
Yes! All of our products are made for sensitive skin.
A biomechanical assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of how your body moves, functions, and performs. It combines advanced technology and clinical testing to identify movement imbalances, strength deficits, mobility restrictions, and areas that may increase injury risk.
Our assessment combines Kinvent force plate analysis, dynamometer strength testing, range of motion measurements, posture evaluation, and functional movement testing to provide a complete picture of your physical performance and recovery needs.
Force plates measure balance, stability, power output, weight distribution, and movement asymmetries. This data helps identify weaknesses and imbalances that may affect performance, recovery, or injury risk.
Using handheld dynamometers, we can objectively measure muscle strength and compare both sides of the body. This helps identify deficits, monitor rehabilitation progress, and guide treatment and exercise programs.
Biomechanical assessments are beneficial for athletes, active individuals, clients recovering from injury, post-surgical patients, and anyone looking to improve movement, performance, or overall physical function.
Yes. By identifying weaknesses, asymmetries, and movement compensations early, we can develop targeted treatment and exercise plans to help reduce injury risk and improve performance
Absolutely. Biomechanical testing provides objective data to track recovery, measure progress, and ensure you are safely progressing back to normal activity or sport following surgery.
Yes. Following your assessment, our team will review the results and create a personalized treatment and exercise program based on your specific goals, findings, and performance needs.
Most biomechanical assessments take between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the evaluation and your individual goals.
This depends on your goals. Athletes may benefit from periodic assessments throughout the year,
while rehabilitation clients often undergo reassessment to objectively monitor progress and guide
ongoing treatment.
